![]() Mary will be interred at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward with her husband and near her daughter. Throughout her final ordeal her nieces and nephews visited in the vigil. She passed quietly at home with her son and hospice care by her side. Mary had what a lot of people never realize. She had her Hearts desire: a home she worked to keep neat and clean, a loving husband who worked hard to provide for the family, and two loving children. Mary knew exactly what she had nullifying any need for a search. Many people spend their lives searching-whether for themselves or some loftier goal. Debra was taken from the family in a tragedy that reverberates thru the greater family to this day. They had two children, Wayne and Debra Ann. They married and set up their own home in the Ashland area in a house Tony helped build. Her Tony was the love of her life and best friend. One of her work friends on a fortuitous night at the Newark Pavilion introduced her to her future husband, Anthony. It was rare when she was able to attend a dance at local venues. It was the era of the Big Bands and Mary loved to dance usually with her brothers and sister at home. She worked at Fridens in San Leandro building Altimeters for the US Air Force. With the advent of World War 2, Mary lied about her age to work and contribute to the War effort. Summers were spent working along side her family striving for the overall Welfare of her family coming out of the Great Depression. She went to Washington High School in Fremont. In Decoto she had many family members-aunts, uncles, cousins all who were equally close to each other while she grew up. All of her family sadly have preceded her in passing. ![]() She grew up in a close loving family along with her brothers Manuel, Paul, Alexander and one sister, Florence. Visitation will take place from 1:00-3:00 on Thursday, May 26th with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 in the chapel. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa. The family, on behalf of Hayward, would like to extend a very special thank you to his family doctor, Dr. Eddy Malouf, home care nurse Janet Lilly, and the staff at The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Center. We are sure he is in heaven watching over us and listening to his favourite Newfoundland music. He had hoped to make it to see this year’s spring flowers and he did just that. He was king of the grill, with pork chops and steak his specialty, and no one knew how to shuck a lobster like him! An avid sports fan, Hayward was a huge supporter of curling (especially Newfoundland’s Team Gushue), The Toronto Blue Jays, and the Hamilton Tiger Cats. He took great pride in his garden and loved spending time in his back yard, on the deck in his special chair, soaking up the sun and listening to the sounds of the birds. Hayward will be remembered as a warm and charming man who could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. Remembered fondly by his many nieces, nephews, and friends. One of ten children, Hayward was predeceased by his siblings Raymond, Herb, Hubert, Viola, Dilbert, Gloria, Alcida, and Carter. He will be remembered by his sister Stella Driscoll (Charlie).
